December 21, 2001, Wednesday Fine
This afternoon, I went to the Shanghai Orphanage with my friends.
When we entered the orphanage, some teachers showed us around it. As we came to the garden, we saw many tall trees and beautiful flowers. Then we were led into one of the old buildings where we found many children who had been deserted by their parents. These children were not healthy. Some were disabled. Others were retarded.
The ages of the children in the middle class ranged from 3 to 6. When we came into the classroom, they were very happy. From their eyes, we could find their desire to make friends with us. We gave them many toys such as cars and dollies. In order to make them happier, we sang and danced with them and finally, we told them some interesting stories which wet them laughing.
As we were about to leave, one of the children came up to us and gave every one of us a big kiss. At that time, we were so moved that our eyes filled with tears.
Having returned home, I thought a lot. These children are not healthy, but like healthy people, they need love and help. We should give them more care. In this way, they will grow up healthily.
