有趣的初一英語(yǔ)短文:Prowling Cat
A lady had a beautiful black cat, Midnight, who spent his days outside and came indoors at night.
一位女士擁有一只非常美麗的黑貓,叫做子夜,它會(huì)在晚上跑出去玩一陣,再回家來(lái)。
One crisp fall evening he disappeared.
然而在一個(gè)涼爽的傍晚,它消失了。
The lady searched for him in vain.
女士苦苦找尋而徒勞無(wú)功。
The following spring, however, Mdnight reappeared, looking healthy and clean. She figured he'd been sowing his wild oats.
第二年春天,子夜又回來(lái)了,看上去干凈又健康的樣子。。女士想著:它大概在外面種了燕麥吧。
Everything was back to normal, until that fall, when Midnight disappeared again.
一切如舊,直到這年秋天,子夜又消失了。
The next spring, he returned. Perplexed the lady went door to door questioning others in the area.

Finally she rang the bell of an older couple.

"A black cat?" the old woman said, "Oh yes, My husband and I hated to see him out in the cold, so we bought a cat carrier. We take him to Florida every winter."
“一只黑貓?”老婦人說(shuō),“啊,是的。我們夫婦倆不想讓它在外面挨凍,于是我們就買(mǎi)了一個(gè)貓籠,每年冬天都帶它去弗洛里達(dá)。”

A couple go for a meal at a Chinese restaurant and order the "Chicken Surprise". The waiter brings the meal, served in a lidded cast iron pot.
一堆夫婦去中餐館吃飯,點(diǎn)了一個(gè)“雞肉驚嚇”。服務(wù)員上菜了,拿上來(lái)一個(gè)鑄造的鐵罐。
Just as the wife is about to serve herself, the lid of the pot rises slightly and she briefly sees two beady little eyes looking around before the lid slams back down.
正當(dāng)妻子準(zhǔn)備開(kāi)動(dòng)的時(shí)候,罐子的蓋子輕輕地升起來(lái)了一點(diǎn),蓋子又落下去前她只看到兩只亮晶晶的小眼睛正四處看。
"Good grief, did you see that?" she asks her husband.
“天吶,你看到了嗎?”她問(wèn)丈夫。
He hasn't, so she asks him to look in the pot. He reaches for it and again the lid rises, and he sees two little eyes looking around before it slams down.
丈夫沒(méi)有,于是妻子讓丈夫一直盯著這個(gè)罐子。他伸出手去,而蓋子又起來(lái)了,他也看到了那兩只亮晶晶的小眼睛。
Rather perturbed, he calls the waiter over, explains what is happening,and demands an explanation.
他不安地叫來(lái)了服務(wù)員,告訴了他看到的事情,要求一個(gè)解釋。
"Please sir," says the waiter, "what you order?" The husband replies, "Chicken Surprise."
“好的先生,”服務(wù)員說(shuō),“您點(diǎn)了什么?”丈夫回答:“雞肉驚嚇”
"Ah... so sorry," says the waiter, "I bring you Peeking Duck."
“啊…不好意思”服務(wù)員說(shuō),“我給您上的是北京烤鴨。”

In a dog park in a very chic Manhattan neighborhood, three dogs get together to chat, and the subject of what breed they are comes up.
在曼哈頓的一個(gè)狗公園里,三只狗正在聊著它們的血統(tǒng)是怎樣的。
The first dog says, "well, my mother was a cocker spaniel and my father was a poodle, so I'm a Cockapoo. We're very trendy."
第一只狗說(shuō),“嗯,我媽媽是只考克斯班尼犬,我爸爸是只貴賓犬,所以我是只可卡頗。我們都是很時(shí)髦的。”
The second dog puts his nose in the air and says, "Well, that's nice. Personally, my father was a purebred pug and my mother was an award-winning beagle, making me a Puggle. We're the latest thing in L.A."
第二只狗嗅了嗅,說(shuō):“那挺好的。我爸爸是只純種的哈巴狗,媽媽則是只得過(guò)獎(jiǎng)的比格犬,我就是只哈巴小獵狗啦。我們是洛杉磯最新潮的。”
The third dog looks very uncomfortable and starts trying to change the subject. "Come on, just tell us," the other dogs keep saying. Finally, he gives in.
第三只狗看上去很不舒服,試著轉(zhuǎn)移話(huà)題。“別這樣,告訴我們吧。”其他兩只狗勸道。最終,它還是說(shuō)了。
"Well, my father was a Bull Terrier and my mother was a Shi Tzu..."
“額,我爸爸是只牛頭梗,我媽媽是只西施犬…”
