Noble Teachers Deserve Respect
Since ancient times, teaching has been a nobleprofession. And teachers are often compared to “gardeners” and “candles” whichburn themselves but light the way for others. This indicates that people have aspecial respect foe teachers and the job of teaching. In survey the history ofChinese education, we can see teachers are not only holding the responsibilityof transmitting knowledge but also setting good models for students in morals, ethics and patriotism. And many brilliant examples are throughout history.
Today, it is encouraging that there are a large numberof education workers who are willing to dedicate themselves to the educationalbusiness. They are strict in teaching, have a wide range of knowledge and workwith tireless enthusiasm. They work silently, seeking no personal fame. Allthese demonstrate the noble and pure personality of teachers.
However, it is also regret that today some teachersare doing things not in line with their noble image. They, for example, ask forhigh fees from their students with various excuses. Some even peddle productswhich have nothing to do with teaching to students. Though such teachers arevery small in number, the harm they cause is serious. They might bring aboutbad effects on students and ruin the image of teachers as a whole.
As far as I am concerned, I wish all teachers wouldtreasure their glory and respect bestowed by society and regulate theirbehavior. Leave virtue and kindness to your students instead of greed for moneybecause only this can bring happiness to them. This is my own experience.

The Ture Nobility
In a calm sea every man is a pilot.
But all sunshine without shade, all pleasure without pain, is not life at all. Take the lot of the happiest—it is a tangled yarn. Bereavements and blessings, one following anther, make us sad and blessed by turns. Even death itself makes life more loving. Men come closest to their true selves in the sober moments of life, under the shadows of sorrow and loss.
In the affairs of life or of business, it is not intellect that tells so much as character, not brains so much as heart, not genius so much as self-control, patience, and discipline, regulated by judgment.
I have always believed that the man who has begun to live more seriously within begins to live more simply without. In an age of extravagance and waste, I wish I could show to the world how few the real wants of humanity are.
To regret one’s errors to the point of not repeating them is true repentance. There is nothing noble in being superior to some other man. The true nobility is in being superior to your previous self.
It is curious that our own offenses should seem so much less heinous than the offenses of others. I suppose the reason is that we know all the circumstances that have occasioned them and so manage to excuse in ourselves what we cannot excuse in others. We turn our attention away from our own defects, and when we are forced by untoward events to consider them, find it easy to condone them. For all I know we are right to do this; they are part of us and we must accept the good and bad in ourselves together.
But when we come to judge others, it is not by ourselves as we really are that we judge hem, but by an image that we have formed of ourselves from which we have left out everything that offends our vanity or would discredit us in the eyes of the world. To take a trivial stance: how scornful we are when we catch someone out telling a lie; but who can say that he has ever told not one, but a hundred?
There is not much to choose between men. They are all a hotchpotch of greatness and tininess, of virtue and vice, of nobility and baseness. Some have more strength of character, or more opportunity, and so in one direction or another give their instincts freer play, but initially they are the same. For my part, I do not think I am any better or any worse than most people, but I know that if I set down every action in my life and every thought that has crossed my mind, the world would consider me a monster of depravity. The knowledge that these reveries are common to all men should inspire one with tolerance to oneself as well as to others. It is well also if they enable us to look upon our fellows, even the most eminent and respectable, with humor, and if they lead us to take ourselves not too seriously.
