I intend to continue the study of History at university. As a subject I have been interested in since childhood, I enjoy studying the past and how it has shaped our future. The study of History allows us to view the mistakes and successes of the past and employ them to the future. a??History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are. (McCullough) History allows society to form an identity and to advance through learned tolerance and understanding.Last year in AS History I studied he unification of Italy which was key in my understanding of history. It was fascinating to explore how Italy came together as one country from several states and to discuss whether Italy would have formed alone or whether in required to push from those such as Garibaldi or Cavour.
Having spent many years studying modern history and decided to take it upon myself to expand my knowledge into ancient history. Earlier this year I read a book called Cleopatra by Lucy Hughes- Hallet. It was interesting to read about such a famous and influential woman of history from another womans perspective. Often Cleopatra is portrayed as femme fatale- as in the portrait by John William Waterhouse or Shakespeare who said a??other women cloy the appetites they feed: but she makes hungry, where most she satisfies.
She is often seen by historians as a seductive, potentially poisonous temptress, however this is not necessarily how Hughes-Hallet interprets her; to her she is plainer, more ambitious and less cruel. I think it is difficult to separate fact from fiction when it comes to ancient history and especially in this case someone as constantly redesigned as Cleopatra.
History has taught me to make substantiated judgments and to interpret and analyse external material as well as my own opinions. I find History intriguing because it gives me the opportunity to study the development of human society over a long-term. My inquisitive mind has further contributed to my enthusiasm for the subject and I enjoy working independently. But all three of my subjects have honed my writing skills, to be able to select and organise knowledge and communicate it coherently and concisely. More specifically, Sociology has been helpful in discerning social trends, and understanding something of the human psyche; and English Literature allows me to study works, in context. All these skills will enable me to read History at university.
I enjoy visiting museums and monuments of history when I have the opportunity. I particularly love the trench experience at the Imperial War Museum and more ancient history- such as the ancient human occupation of Britain - at the National History Museum.
I work well within a team, but also have the necessary attributes to lead if I am called upon, demonstrated in my active participation in my school's Charities Committee for the past six years, organising various charity events throughout the school. My work as secretary of the Charities Committee allows me to represent the school in the community and has taught me management and organisation skills. In school I have also been a keen participant in the orchestra in which I am lead violinist in school and also play for the borough. I have been involved in several school plays either back stage, in the orchestra or as part of the cast. I have also been involved in numerous school sports teams, including the netball and athletics teams. I am a naturally cheerful person who has a positive outlook on life, but with the maturity necessary for university, and as such, I feel that I am fully prepared for the academic step up to degree level. I greatly anticipating the opportunity not only to go to university, but specifically to read History as I know it will provide me with vital life skills, as well as giving me access to a potentially wide and varied career within the specialty.
新加坡留學(xué)租房類(lèi)型和費(fèi)用
一、房源
1.類(lèi)型
租的房子主要是兩大類(lèi)，一種是政府提供的組屋，大概70%的人是住在組屋內(nèi)的，滿(mǎn)足普通人的需求;另一種就是私人公寓，分為普通級(jí)別和高端級(jí)別，學(xué)生一般會(huì)選擇前者。
組屋的申請(qǐng)難度不算大，因?yàn)橛胁糠纸M屋，本身就是供應(yīng)給學(xué)生的，所以大家只要早點(diǎn)提出申請(qǐng)，基本上都可以成功入住，如果申請(qǐng)遲了，就只能夠住離學(xué)校比較遠(yuǎn)的房子了。
普通的公寓一般會(huì)有自己的物業(yè)管理機(jī)構(gòu)，而且會(huì)有網(wǎng)站，大家可以進(jìn)行線(xiàn)上的申請(qǐng)，可以很清晰的看到房子的內(nèi)部情況，是非常公開(kāi)而且透明的，而且可以先預(yù)定交定金，看房之后再確認(rèn)，
2.租期
房子的管理會(huì)受到統(tǒng)一的監(jiān)控，在保證租戶(hù)的權(quán)益的情況下，也會(huì)對(duì)戶(hù)主進(jìn)行保障，所以一般租房簽合同，一般最短是六個(gè)月，所以大家簽訂合同之前，一定要想提前做好安排。
二、費(fèi)用
1.中介費(fèi)
交給負(fù)責(zé)提供服務(wù)的機(jī)構(gòu)的服務(wù)費(fèi)，一般會(huì)有比較統(tǒng)一的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)，申請(qǐng)組屋的費(fèi)用會(huì)稍低一些，而公寓的定位越高，要交的服務(wù)費(fèi)也會(huì)越貴，大家可以直接進(jìn)行線(xiàn)上的了解，是一個(gè)月的租金。
2.押金
簽訂了入住的合同之后，大家還需要向提供房子的房東繳納押金，一方面是防止租戶(hù)跑路房東經(jīng)濟(jì)受損，另一方面是對(duì)屋內(nèi)家具電器進(jìn)行保障，損壞維修會(huì)直接扣押金。
3.租金
同樣規(guī)格的房子，會(huì)受到地理位置的重大影響，在交通便利以及位置優(yōu)越的房子，會(huì)比一些偏遠(yuǎn)的地方的租金貴上好幾倍，即便是組屋也不能例外，所以考慮到性?xún)r(jià)比，大家一定要進(jìn)行取舍。
除了要支付每個(gè)月入住的租金，學(xué)生還需要考慮到用水用電的成本，以及需要支付的物業(yè)費(fèi)和管理費(fèi)，還有衛(wèi)生費(fèi)，不會(huì)特別高，但是需要按月進(jìn)行按時(shí)的繳納。
新加坡留學(xué)生活物品準(zhǔn)備清單
1.藥品類(lèi)：
感冒藥，清火消炎藥，腹瀉藥，皮膚病藥，清涼油 ，花露水，創(chuàng)可貼，以及其它個(gè)人藥品?？蓚湫┚S生素片消食片，以防水土不服導(dǎo)致的消化不良。新加坡醫(yī)藥費(fèi)挺貴， 常用藥品有備無(wú)患。但不要帶過(guò)多量，因?yàn)榭赡芟喈?dāng)多的藥品還沒(méi)使用就過(guò)了保質(zhì)期。另外，對(duì)于體質(zhì)弱的人(特別是女生)，由于緯度跨越大，很可能有各種生理不調(diào)的現(xiàn)象發(fā)生。有條件可帶些調(diào)養(yǎng)的藥品或補(bǔ)品。
2.衣物：
在新加坡常穿的有T恤、牛仔褲、長(zhǎng)褲、休閑短褲等夏季著裝，校園內(nèi)衣著比較隨意，此類(lèi)衣物可以日常穿著，但不必?cái)y帶過(guò)多。另可帶一夾克衫或運(yùn)動(dòng)上衣，為的是在較冷的空調(diào)間御寒。較好的襯衫、領(lǐng)帶、西褲及皮鞋一套(不必帶西裝)，用于非常難得的正式場(chǎng)合用。球鞋可多帶幾雙，再有一雙休閑/旅游鞋平時(shí)穿穿，一雙涼鞋和兩雙質(zhì)量好的拖鞋也是必要的。
3.床上用品：
這邊住宿一般都有床墊的，其它床上用品可以就地購(gòu)買(mǎi)，從國(guó)內(nèi)帶的話(huà)，建議：枕套和床單各兩套(標(biāo)準(zhǔn)枕套45x70cm)，毛巾被一條或4兩條。如果方便也可帶涼席過(guò)來(lái)。枕頭可在這邊買(mǎi)。不必帶蚊帳。
4.個(gè)人衛(wèi)生用具：
茶杯、牙膏、牙刷、毛巾等可以適量帶，除牙刷外，一般日常用品都不貴。洗發(fā)液、浴液由于較重，而且不宜擠壓，可在這邊買(mǎi)，也不貴。
5.小型電器類(lèi)：
新加坡的(進(jìn)口)小型電器十分便宜，隨身聽(tīng)、CD隨身聽(tīng)、照相機(jī)、電腦配件等在新加坡購(gòu)買(mǎi)為佳。
6.貨幣：
初到新加坡可以帶些錢(qián)，以備應(yīng)急。人民幣、港幣、美元等都可在這里兌換成新幣。雖然人民幣本地匯率比國(guó)內(nèi)官方牌價(jià)較低，但由于目前美元和人民幣幣值堅(jiān)挺，較之以前現(xiàn)在兌換還是比較合算的。
7.食品：
看個(gè)人口味，可帶些辣醬、醬菜、零食等，許多新加坡不一定有。
8.其它：
后備眼鏡，音樂(lè)歌曲CD，書(shū)包或背包，親友相冊(cè)。
一年時(shí)間其實(shí)過(guò)的很快，所以不要象搬家似的帶太多物品，許多東西這邊買(mǎi)也不太貴，頂多一年以后再回家補(bǔ)充裝備。 電源也是220的，和國(guó)內(nèi)一樣。
