1.子曰:“學(xué)而時(shí)習(xí)之,不亦悅乎?有朋自遠(yuǎn)方來(lái),不亦樂(lè)乎?人不知而不慍,不亦君子乎?”
The Master said, "to learn and at due times to repeat what one has learned, is that not after all a pleasure? That friends should come to one from afar, is this not after all delightful? To remain unsoured even though one's merits are unrecognized by others, is that not after all what is expected of a gentleman?"
2.子曰:“吾十有五而志于學(xué),三十而立,四十而不惑,五十而知天命,六十而耳順,七十而從心所欲,不逾矩。”
The Master said, "At fifteen I set my heart upon learning. At thirty, I planted my feet firm upon the ground. At forty, I no longer suffered from perplexities ( 困惑;窘困). At fifty, I knew what were the biddings (命令,吩咐) of Heaven. At sixty, I heard them with docile (馴順的,馴良的) ear. At seventy, I could follow the dictates(聽(tīng)從...支配) of my own heart; for what I desired no longer overstepped (逾越) the boundaries of right."
3.子曰:“賢哉回也!一簞食,一瓢飲,在陋巷,人不堪其憂,回也不改其樂(lè)。賢哉回也!”
The Master said, "incomparable (無(wú)比的,無(wú)雙的) indeed was Hui! A handful of rice to eat, a gourdful (一葫蘆的量) of water to drink, living in a mean street. Others would have found it unendurably (難忍受地,不可容忍地) depressing, but to Hui's cheerfulness it made no difference at all. Incomparable indeed was Hui (顏回)!" 注:顏回,春秋末魯國(guó)(今山東曲阜)人,是孔子的得意門(mén)生。

Confucius Confucius (551 B.C—479 B.C.) is one of the most famous Chinese people. As the founder of Confucianism1, his thought has exerted a deep influence on China and its people. But Confuciuswas not his real name. It was a courtesy title, a Latinized form of “Kong Fuzi”, meaning “Master Kong”. His family name was Kong and his given name, Qiu. And he styled himself Zhongni. He was born at Zouyi, the State of Lu2.
