“Old wives tales” are beliefs passed down from one generation to another. For example, most of us remember our parents’ telling us to eat more of certain foods of not to do certain things. Is there any truth in these teachings? Some of them agree with present medical thinking, but others have not passed the test of time.
Did your mother ever tell you to eat your carrots because they are good for your eyes? Scientists now report that eating carrots can help prevent a serious eye disease called macular degeneration. Eating just one carrot a day can reduce the possibility of getting this disease by 40% Garlic(蒜)is good for you ,too. It can kill the type of virus that causes colds.
Unfortunately, not all of Mom’s advice passed the test of medical studies. For example, generations of children have been told not to go swimming within an hour after eating But research suggests that there is no danger in doing so. Do sweets cause tooth problems? Well, yes and no. Sticky sweets made with grains tend to cause more problems than sweets made with simple sugars.
Even though science can tell us that some of our traditional beliefs don’t hold water, there is still a lot of truth in the old wives’ tales. After, much of this knowledge has been accumulated(積累)from thousands of years of experience in family health care. We should respect this body of knowledge even as we search for clear scientific support to prove it true or false。

For most Brits, simply asking someone how much they’re worth financially is considered impolite. Thankfully, most people are kind enough to drop several obvious hints about their relative wealth or successful careers. They’re the ones who post on social media about flying to a meeting for work, or wear clothes with labels big enough to silently scream about how loaded they are and how well they’re doing.
It’s a worrying trend. It seems as though self-worth is increasingly being tied to the careers we choose and the money we earn. A study in 2013, for example, found that nearly 17 percent of unemployed Americans were depressed, compared to almost 6 percent of those who had a permanent job.
We need to stop placing so much value on what a person earn, and putting more on what they do. Don’t get me wrong—being ambitious is not a fault, and achievements should always be celebrated. But when a person uses their success to judge you negatively. it becomes a problem.
We need to stop thinking that someone is worth admiring if they’re really rich but stabbed(刺)everybody in the back along the way to get there. We need to throw the expression ‘Nice Guys Finish Last’ to the dustbin of history, by realizing that being a decent(正派的)person is not a sign of weakness but a positive and desirable trait(品質(zhì))。
If you want to know what you’re really worth, here’s a tip: It doesn’t have anything to do with your bank account.
It’s about how many times you’ve been there for your friends. It’s how many times you’ve been kind to a stranger. It’s every time you did something unselfish, or told your partners you loved them, or treated someone with respect no matter where they were in their own life.
So the next time someone boasts about their wealth, remember that they can have all the money in the world, but they can never buy their way out of being a douchebag(人渣).
32. The study in paragraph 2 is used to show that .
A. people prefer a permanent job
B. people tend to think self-worth is related to career and wealth
C. people with a permanent job were not depressed
D. the unemployed people were not ambitious
33. The writer’s attitude towards using success to judge a person is .
A. critical B. Supportive C. positive D. indifferent
34. The write develops the passage mainly by .
A. providing typical examples
B. comparing different opinions
C. following the order of importance
D. presenting a wrong opinion and explaining his own
35. The most suitable title of the passage is .
A. Can money buy everything? B. Are you worth financially?
C. Is wealth self-worth? D. Is “decent” a sign of weakness?第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2分,滿分10分)

Tips to Increase Your Productivity
Do you want to get more done in your day? Of course you do. 36 The good news is that everyone can increase the amount of tasks they accomplish in a day. Here are some tips to help you have a more productive day.
Make a plan for your day. Make sure you know how you want your day to go in advance, even before you start. 37 To work best, create the next day’s plan the night before so that every morning you spend time performing. Not planning.
Break large task down into bits that can be accomplished easily. Do you have a large project that’s just so big that you keep putting it off? Or maybe you’re just unsure of where to begin, so you put it off. 38 Therefore, you will feel a sense of accomplishment as you check the items of your list.
Always set your priorities(優(yōu)先事項). 39 Figure out what must be done, do that first and rank the rest of your work according to importance. If you don’t get to the items at the end of your list, it won’t be a big problem, and you can do them another time.
40 If you are the most productive in the morning that’s when you should hit it hard and do as much as you can. If you work better in the afternoon, take care of some things like emails in the morning and then accomplish the important projects in the afternoon. Keep on top of your work habits. And you’ll be more productive.
A. Reward yourself if you are productive.
B. Be aware when you are the most productive.
C. This can provide you a roadmap for the day.
D. It’s important to accomplish the most important tasks first.
F. A good way is to break the project down into more manageable ones.
G. To stay competitive in any industry, you need to improve your productivity.第三部分 英語知識運用(共兩節(jié),滿分45分)

Yang Li: Mr. Boris, as Mayor of London, what’s your purpose of launching this scheme?
Boris Johnson: I want to get people out of their cars onto bicycles Because I think we have far too many people, who waste time sitting in traffic jams, going mad and bending their steering wheels hen they should d be on a beautiful new bike like this cycling in lovely London weather across very flat roads in great safety and enjoying the open air.
Yang Li: London is a big in durational city with thousands of visitors pouring in every day. I wonder whether they are tempted(動心的)by a bicycle ride in London. Let’s find out what people think of the scheme, and what the advantages and disadvantages are? What’s your name and where are you from?

Cyclist 2: I’m William. Sure it’s a great scheme; it’s good for the environment, saves money and reduces traffic.
Yang Li: Would you show me how to start it ?
William: Yes, you just take the key and where it says membership key just press it in and wait for the green light, you should see a green light come on… there we go, now you need to pull the bike quite hard. There we are, and that’s it.
Cyclist 3: I am Ken. I found it great. It’s faster than walking. It saves me time and it keeps me fit.
Yang Li: Ok. Any disadvantages?
Ken: There often isn’t anywhere to park the bicycle when you’ve finished with it so you have to ride further than you want to.
Yang Li: Right. Would you recommend more people using it?
Ken: I certainly would, the more the merrier.
