The American travel website company TripAdvisor publishes a list of the world's best beaches every year. Today,we are going to explore some of this year's top 10 beaches in the world.
1.Baia do Sancho,Brazil
It is named as this year's best beach in the world. Its water is calm and clear. Its sand is fine and soft. But getting to Baia do Sancho is not so easy.It is on Fernando de Noronha,a volcanic island more than 300 kilometers off Brazil's coast.Travelers must take a plane or boat from major cities in northern Brazil to get there. And no more than 420 visitors can be on the island at one time.

While Baia do Sancho is difficult to get to,Trip Advisor's second-ranked beach could not be much easier for tourists to reach.

It offers visitors a chance to try different water sports, including tubing and jet skiing.Eagle Beach may be best known, however, for its dramatic sunsets. On clear nights, the sky tums red, orange, and purple.
4.Playa Paraiso,Cuba
The fourth-best beach is Playa Paraiso,an island off of Cuba's southern coast. It has a fun,laid-back restaurant for those who wish to eat and drink. There is little else on the beach. And that is exactly what visitors like about it. People come here for the sugar-like sand and calm waters filled with colorful wildlife.

Bangkok(曼谷),Thailand,is known for having some of the best street food in the world. But officials have announced plans to ban food vendors(攤販)in an effort to clean up the city.An assistant to Bangkok's governor told The Nation newspaper the move is meant to improve the appearance, walkability and safety of city streets.
"The street vendors have seized the pavement space for too long and we already provide them space to sell food and other products legally in the market,"the assistant said."So there will be no let-up in this operation—every street vendor will have to move out."
Bangkok was recently named the world's finest street food location for the second year by Cable News Network (CNN).
Vendors can be found in all of Bangkok's busiest areas. They serve everyone from business people to tourists to local citizens. The chairs and tables are basic.Customers have to deal with Bangkok's extreme heat and polluted air while they eat.But the tasty food keeps people coming back again and again.

Critics of the street food clean-up campaign say low-income people-including food vendors and their customers-will be most affected by the ban. They have called on the government to do more to help the vendors keep their businesses going in a legal way.
Ubolwattana Mingkwan is a coffee vendor in Bangkok. She charges 85 cents for a cup of coffee. She says she cannot afford the cost of rent required to do business in a government-approved area."I've asked city officials for help and understanding,"she told the Associated Press,"All they say now is "no,no,no."They've already received their orders."

Universities and colleges in the United States are trying new programs for international students to increase enrollment and income. Some universities are experimenting with bringing international high school students to their campuses. These programs permit students to complete their high school diploma while earning college credit at the same time.
One example of this model is at the University of Southern Maine,or USM.The program is called the "International Academy".The school is expecting its first class of international high school students this fall.Joanna Evans is the director for the academy. The program is officially a "boarding school on a university campus" that serves 11th and 12th grade international high school students only.
The students will take classes at the University of Southern Maine to complete their high school diploma. However, because the classes are university-level,the students will receive college credit at the same time.
According to Evans, the students they recruit will have to be very strong.Their course schedule will be the same as taking only advanced-placement courses. The goal is that,by the time they complete their high school diploma at the academy, they will be ready to start college as a third-year college student.
Their English language skills also must be strong. The Academy looks for students with a minimum Test of English as a Foreign Language,or TOEFL score of 79,or a 6.5 on the International English Testing System,or IELTS. However, there are classes available to provide additional English language training when the students arrive if they need it.
All incoming students at the academy are required to take a college writing class in their first term.If English is not their first language, they will take a class taught by teachers with a background in teaching students who speak English as a foreign language.
Although they are only high school students, the expectations are the same as college students."Students need to be ready to take university classes, and that is the deal"Evans said.
32.How does the new program "International Academy" benefit students?
A.Shortening their time at school. B.Offering free education.
C.Supplying free room and board. D.Giving up courses in high school.
33.Which of the following can replace the underlined word "recruit" in Paragraph 4?
A.refuse B.train C.value D.admit
34.Which of the following is an entrance requirement of the students?
A.Being very creative. B.High English level. C.High intelligence. D.Wealthy background.
35.What are the students of the new program expected to do?
A.Have a high level of writing. B.Build up strong enough bodies.
C.Achieve what college students do. D.Progress with help of experienced teachers.第二節(jié)(共5小題;每小題2分,滿分10分)

Dear Peter,
I had an excellent train ride during the summer vacation by high-speed rail.I had bought my train ticket online ahead of time.It is convenient to buy train tickets now. Before I got on the train,I picked up my ticket from the machine with my identity card.
Sitting on the train,I felt comfortable and relaxed.I enjoyed the scenery outside the window. With train running fast, the landscapes changed quickly. There is a dining car in the train but the meals are very expensive. So I only ate my own food.I had a good time in Beijing, visiting many famous attractions.
Looking forward to your holiday experience.
Yours,
Li Hua

W:Congratulations,Tom.I heard you got a job with the Wilson Company.
M:Hmm,thanks,Professor Green,but it’s a little too soon for congratulation.All I got so far is an interview,early next week,on Thursday.
(Text 2)
W:It sounds expensive. Why did they charge you so much for repairing the computer?
M:Well,it was for labor to start with.A new modem cost another. On top of that I needed a new battery, and it cost.
(Text 3)
W:I prefer vegetables to meat.
M:You ate meat every day last week, and not once did I see anything green on your plate.
W:Well,it’s different now.I want to lose some weight,so I’m not going to eat as much meat anymore.
(Text 4)
W:Did you get traveler’s checks to take on your vacation?

M:Where are you going,Mary? It’s Sunday today.
W:I know,Dad.But I have to go to the hall of the school.
M:Why?
W:Because we’ll put on a play there on Christmas Eve.And we must prepare for it.
M:Will you come home for lunch?
W:No.And I won’t come home for supper,either.We won’t get home until 8:00 this evening.
M:Then I’ll drive to take you home at 8:10 after I see the film with your mom.The film will be on from 6:00 to 8:00.
W:Good. Then I won’t have to take the bus. It’s always so crowded in the evening.
(Text 7)
M:Hey,Jean.I have a question. How long have you been wearing glasses?
W:Since I was eleven.Why?
M:Well,I’ve been wondering if I should get some myself.
W:If you’re having difficulty seeing, you should go to an eye doctor.
M:Well, during the day,my vision is all right. But this past year, when I drove at night,I didn’t see as clearly as I should.
W:That sounds dangerous. You should make an appointment right away.
M:I guess so.I’ve never had an accident or anything.Hey…Can I borrow your glasses to see if they help?
W:No! I need these.Get your own.(Text 8)
W:Hello,Pasadena Hotel.How may I direct your call?

W:Oh,I’m sorry, sir.I only handle bookings for our standard rooms. The person you need to speak with is Tony Parker. He makes all the arrangements for our special accounts.Unfortunately,he’s not here right now.Can I take down your name and number and have him get back to you?

M:Oh,that sounds like fun. When does the group meet?
W:Usually the last Saturday of the month at 9:30 pm.Every month,we choose a new book. And then during the next meeting,we discuss it.

Every year a team of builders and artists from all over the world come to the little village of Jukkasjarvi and build a hotel out of snow and ice.In the spring it melts and the next year they start all over again. The hotel is a short drive from the airport, and is suitable for most people except families with very young children. In late December and early January ice rooms will be ready for guests but other parts of the hotel will be unfinished. If you come at this time you will be able to watch the artists making their sculptures. If you prefer to see the hotel once everything is completed then the best time to travel is from the middle of January.Various activities are organized for guests at the Ice Hotel. There are guided tours of the hotel in English and Swedish at various times of the day. You’ll also have the chance to make your own ice sculpture.Classes are at 11:00 am daily. The hotel provides all the ice and tools you need and hot drinks—you just bring your ideas. There are also two different trips, both quite reasonably priced. One is a climbing trip to the top of Mount Puimonen. The other is a 5 km cross-country skiing trip.A driver takes you out and then you ski back to the hotel. It is a good idea to book these activities at least three weeks before your arrival as they fill up quickly.
