A modern-day love story of a man who spotted (發(fā)現(xiàn))the girl of his dreams across a New York subway train and tracked her down over the Internet has failed to have a fairytale ending with the relationship over.
For Web designer Patrick Moberg, then 21, from Brooklyn, it was love at first sight when he spotted a woman on a Manthttan train last November. But he lost her in the crowd so he set up a website with a sketch to find her — Nygirlofmydreamt only took Moberg 48 hours to track down the woman, with his phone ringing non-stop and email box overflowing.
The mysterious girl was named as Camille Hayton, from Melbourne, Australia. One of her friends spotted the sketched picture on the Web site and recognized her.
But after finding each other, appearing on TV and getting international press, the couple took their romance out of the public eye, with Moberg closing down the Web site and with both refusing to make any more comments — until now.
“I say we dated for a while but now we’re just friends,” Hayton, now 23, told The Sunday Telegraph. Hayton said she is still recognized about three times a week on the streets of Manhattan as “that girl” and the question is always the same:“So what happened?”
Now Hayton is enjoying single life in New York, keeping busy with acting classes, working in two clothing stores. Last week she had a small role as a waitress in the long-running daytime soap As the World Turns.

The Americans believe that anybody can become President of the United States. In a recent Hollywood comedy, that is exactly what happens.
Dave Kovic, played by Kevin Kline, is a kind-hearted man who runs a business that finds people jobs. He leads a typical American way of life, except for one thing-he looks exactly like the President, Bill Mitchell. In fact, the only thing that makes him different from the nation’s leader is that he is very nice!
The president has started using look-alikes(面貌酷似的人)during some public appearances. Dave is given a chance to “serve his country” by becoming one. However, things go wrong. The President becomes very ill and Dave ends up acting as the President forever.
Director Ivan Reitman, who made the popular and successful comedies like Twins, Ghostbusters and Legal Eagles, could have gone for easy laughs by making fun of the American government. Instead, Dave is an attractive comedy about an ordinary man in extraordinary situations. Kevin Kline gives a double performance as Dave and the President, and Sigourney Weaver is at her best as his First Lady. The love story that develops between her role and Dave is a real classic.
The film is 100% American. However, if you’ve ever felt that anybody could do a better job running the country than the people in power, then you’ll enjoy Dave!
64. Who plays the role of the President in the film?
A. Sigourney Weaver. B. Kevin Kline.
C. Bill Mitchell. D. Ivan Reitman.

A. The author makes fun of the President.
B. The author thinks highly of the film.
C. The author is a fan of Hollywood comedies.
D. The author wishes to become the American President.

Doomed(命中注定的) beauties such as Cleopatra and Manilyn Monroe were far from alone in their unhappiness. Very attractive people are likely to form relations that are less stable(穩(wěn)固的) and satisfying than those enjoyed by plain Janes.
According to research by Dr John Blaine of the University of Southern California, relationships between people whose careers largely depend on their appearances, such as models or actors, tend to end much faster than those between lawyers, doctors or students.
Blaine said the beautiful felt different from childhood. They are treated as special, which may create too much self-confidence. All too often, beauty can be used as a replacement of education. Often they are pushed out of their class or town, told to go off and make their living in Hollywood or London and, when the majority fail, they have few talents to make a living.
Blaine added that beautiful people score poorly on the “big five” — the key factors American experts consider when helping unhappy couples. These are neuroticism (神經(jīng)質(zhì)), including anger anxiety; extroversion (性格外向); openness to new experiences; agreeableness; and conscientiousness (責(zé)任感). Attractive people often see no reason to try to change until their looks are less beautiful.
Krista Sutherland, of the University of California Los Angeles, said relations that appeared to be perfect from the outside, such as the former “dream teams” of Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise or Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley, where backgrounds and careers are often shared, did not necessarily lead to happiness.
68. What does the first sentence of the passage mean?
A. Beautiful women always felt lonely.
B. Beautiful women were always alone.
C. Many beautiful women didn’t end up with a happy life.
D. Beautiful women always lived a happy life.
69. The underlined phrase “plain Janes” in the passage refers to ________.
A. ordinary-looking women B. women called Jane
C. common people D. attractive women
70. We can infer in the passage that ________.
A. Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley were a couple
B. Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise were very satisfied with their life
C. When they fail in Hollywood, the beautiful have little trouble in making a living
D. The marriage of the beautiful often last long
71. Which of the following is the best title?
A. Five key factors affecting the relationship.
B. Beauties are doomed to fail in love.
C. It’s a beautiful mistake.
D. Marriage depends on appearance.

I love Charles Barkley like a brother but we disagree from time to time. Here’s an example of what I mean: I disagree with what Charles says in his Nike commercial, the one in which he insist, “I am not a role model.” Charles, you can deny(否認(rèn)) being a role model all you want, but we don’t choose to be role models, we are chosen. Our only choice is whether to be a good role model or a bad one. I don’t think we can accept all the honor and the money that comes with being a famous athlete and not accept the responsibility of being a role model, of knowing that kids and even some adults are watching us and looking for us to set an example.
I love being a role model, and I try to be a positive one. That doesn’t mean I always succeed. I’m not saint (圣賢的). I make mistakes, and sometimes I do childish things. But you don’t have to be perfect to be a good role model, and people shouldn’t expect perfection. As a positive role model, however, I think you should at least display the values——like honesty and determination——that are part of being a good person.
Kids have lots of other role models——teachers, movies stars, athletes, even other kids. As athletes, we can’t take the place of parents, but we can help reinforce(鞏固)what they try to teach their kids. It’s a great feeling to think you’re a small part of the reason that a kid decided to give school another try instead of dropping out or that a kid had the strength to walk away when someone offered him drugs. But one thing I would encourage parents to do is to remind their kids that no matter which athletes they look up to, there are no perfect human beings. That way, if the kid’s heroes should make mistakes, it won’t seem like the end of the world to them.
72. The author of this article holds the opinion that ________.
A. a famous athlete should set a good example to the public
B. a famous athlete needn’t be a role model if he doesn’t want to
C. a famous athlete can’t deny being a role model
D. it’s hard to be a role model
73. According to the author, a positive role model ________.
A. can win more money and fame
B. are not allowed to make mistakes
C. are the most important examples a child can follow
D. can have some positive influence on people’s follow
74. Which of the following is best supported by the last paragraph?
A. A good role model can stop children taking drugs.
B. Kids usually expect too much of their role models.
C. Dropping out of schools and taking drugs are the two most serious problems American kids face.
D. Kids drop out of school or take drugs if seeing their heroes make mistakes.
75. The author of this article is probably ________.
A. an admirer of Charles Barkley B. a famous athlete himself
C. a sports reporter D. a famous writer

How time flies! By the time you are going back to Britain, I’d like to say thanks to you on behalf of the whole class for your teaching us so well. We always felt the days when you taught our oral class were pleasant and relaxing. In your lively class, you organized many interesting activities, in which every one of us took an active part. You often said “Never say you can’t”, leaving us a deep impression. What’s more, you told us how effectively team spirit works and encouraged us to communicate and share each other’s opinions bravely.
Now it’s hard for us to say goodbye to you, though we have to. Wish you a good trip and we sincerely hope you will come back some day.
By the way, I am attaching (附上)your picture with the whole class. Please do check it out.
Yours,
Li Hua
