  Tell me about yourself: How to answer this difficult question

  A common interview question that can leave people speechless is "Tell me about yourself." The immediate1 response for many people is: where do I start?

  The basic answer about where to start is with preparation. You'll have a better chance of impressing the interviewer if you think about this question before the interview.

  The first thing to realize is that the question, "Tell me about yourself," provides you with a great chance to promote your strong points. This is particularly important when applying for a job that is different from what you have done in the past. You need to show the interviewer that your previous jobs provide you with skills that can be used in the new job.

  WHAT TO TALK ABOUT 如何介紹?

  With that in mind, make a list of the three most important things you want the interviewer to know about you. Avoid focusing on simple references2 to things that are already on your resume3, although this information should form the skeleton4 of your answer. Around this skeleton should be the meat of your answer; your less obvious, but important skills. Here are some of the skills that you might want to mention:

  Problem solver

  People person

  Team player 合群

  Organised

  This doesn't mean that you just say, "I'm a great problem solver." Instead, explain how you used your problem-solving skills at your previous job.

  Keep your answer short ?V about one to three minutes is generally considered good. That may not seem like much at first, but you'll probably discover that you don't have enough time once you start covering three things you want to highlight6.

  WHAT TO SAY 應(yīng)說甚么?

  What you actually say, in terms of the words you use, is something that you have to decide. You need to create an answer that sounds natural and, at the same time, interesting.

  The way to determine whether your answer is natural is simply by writing a first draft7 of the answer and then read it out loud. When you do this, you'll probably spot things that you have to change.

  Don't worry too much about making the written answer perfect. You're not going to recite it from paper. Instead, this is just a chance for you to determine the length of your answer.

  As you prepare your response, think about how you would talk. You'll want to sound interesting, not boring, so avoid writing just a list of your strengths.

  Here are some final things to think about when answering the question "Tell me about yourself."

  Mention major awards or accomplishments8 that relate to your career;

  Promote your strengths, but do not mention any of your weaknesses;

  Try to be funny if you can, but don't force it;

  Summarize9 your career and education, but don't recite a list;

  Don't start with your date of birth;

  Avoid information that is not career-related. the fact that you own a dog won't get you a job

  Always answer this question

  Try to sound natural

  Relax and enjoy yourself !

  It worked! The cover letter,the resume1,the research,the prayers - it's all come together,you've got the interview. Not the job,just the interview. Now all you have to do is go face-to-face with some super-important suit and persuade him that you're the most desirable thing he's clapped eyes on since he met his executive2 parking space. But if you've come this far,the last stage is going to be easier than it looks?

  What is an interview?

  The best way to look at an interview is as a conversation rather than an interrogation. In a conversation,information flows both ways and after all,you want to learn about the company you may be working for as much as they want to learn about you. You want to make sure the job fits you no less then they want to be sure you fit the job. If you can think of the interview as an opportunity to check them out,you'll show that you're interested in the company,you'll feel more relaxed,you'll perform better and you'll increase your chances of getting an offer.

  What kind of interview are you in for?

  There are a number of different approaches an interviewer can take. Perhaps the most common is the clarification interview,in which the interviewer asks general questions about points on your resume that he'd like to know more about. You may get asked what your career goals are,or what you think you can bring to the job. Know your resume,know how to make it fit the job and interviews like this should be a walk in the park.

  An interviewer may also throw in some doubt-resolving questions: "Why did you leave your last job? ","Are you always this late? ","Where it says on your resume,‘manufacturing mailbags for the government,’where exactly was that? " Be aware of the weaknesses on your resume and prepare some nice flowery words to cover any career cracks and flatten3 the interviewer's unfounded fears.

  Increasingly popular are behavioral interviews,an approach which consultants4 claim is used by a quarter of interviewers. You may be asked to describe an incident in which you had to use your initiative5 under pressure,deal with a difficult worker or work as part of a small team. The idea is that your past behavior will predict your future actions in similar situations and the questions the interviewers ask will highlight skills they believe are important to the job.

  To handle questions like these,think about your work experiences,and retell them in STAR order: Situation/Task,Action and Result. Identify the situation or task you were dealing6 with,explain the action you took and describe the results.

  Preparation is the best way to beat behavioral interviews
